I thought this article was really interesting to read. Especially because we've been discussing images in the media and the portrayal of women. I happened to be out running errands with a friend yesterday and we saw the store, Sexy Modest and decided to look inside. It was really nice inside, but kind of expensive and didn't seem to be worth it. I'm glad that there are people though that care about being modest and promoting modesty.
I agree! It seems there are a lot more stores around that sell modest, but really cute clothes. These types of shops were non-existent when I was a teen, so it's really nice that this is a trend, at least in Utah!
ReplyDeleteI recently saw the sign for that store. At first I didn't know what to think because "sexy" and "modest" tend to be two words that aren't commonly put together. I still don't know how i feel about the idea of modesty being sexy. It's not that I think modesty isn't beautiful, lovely, attractive, or even preferred. It just seems the world is obsessed with looking "sexy" and so to appeal to a culture that puts emphasis on modesty, but still get accept the world's value of sexy, is the way to get people in your store. Well, I really shouldn't be so judgmental of the name of a store, especially when I've never been inside! haha.
